Job Description
We are excited to invite applications for a Temporary Genetic Counselor to join our expanding Genetics team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Lead Genetic Counselor to provide vital support to patients and their families. This position requires a proactive approach, strong analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills, as you will work independently and with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
Conduct genetic risk assessments and counseling for patients or couples seeking preconception guidance.
Provide genetic counseling following PGT-A, PGT-M, and PGT-SR testing.
Gather and evaluate medical and family histories based on referrals, documenting findings using standard pedigree nomenclature.
Coordinate and review results from PGT testing laboratories, offering insights to patients, providers, and nursing staff.
Work with patients' insurance providers to identify appropriate laboratories for sample submissions and communicate the anticipated costs of tests.
Support patients in decision-making regarding prenatal screening versus invasive prenatal diagnosis, leveraging your advanced knowledge of available testing options (e.g., first-trimester screening, cell-free DNA testing, microarray testing).
Assist patients in understanding the risks, benefits, and alternatives to invasive testing options, ensuring they are well-informed to support physicians during the consent process.
Complete laboratory requisitions for genetic testing on behalf of providers.
Advise on appropriate carrier testing and counseling for recessive genes relevant to specific ethnic groups or family histories.
Counsel patients via phone or in person about the implications of genetic testing results.
Prepare cases for single-gene disorder testing, including data entry, reviewing clinical genetic reports, and coordinating samples.
Stay updated on new and emerging technologies in IVF, fetal medicine, and prenatal diagnosis.
Provide clinical evaluations and counseling for patients or couples with suspected or diagnosed genetic disorders.
Develop policies and procedures to address inquiries related to genetic testing and counseling.
Participate in case conferences with the genetic team to review patient cases.
Organize and conduct educational programs on medical genetics and genetic counseling.

Provide support for the Oocyte Donation Program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Graduate degree from an accredited genetic counseling program - required
ABGC Certification or "Board Eligible" status - required. Note: The successful candidate must obtain certification within five years of graduation and maintain certification throughout employment.
Current state licensure or application upon eligibility - required
Experience with an Employee Medical Records (EMR) system - preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) - required
Strong interest in reproductive genetics and experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory setting.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Proven track record of continuous quality improvement and results orientation.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and managerial abilities.
