Duties

Specific Duties
  • Performs serological and DNA analysis of biological samples recovered from evidentiary material.
  • Prepares accurate and precise notes and technical reports.
  • Testifies as an expert witness regarding the scientific conclusions obtained from analysis.
  • Provides technical assistance to members of law enforcement and the criminal justice community.
  • Performs maintenance, calibration, and quality control on scientific instruments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in a biology, chemistry, or forensic science-related area from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of nine semester or equivalent hours of coursework covering the subject areas of genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology along with coursework-in statistics and/or population genetics.
    • Survey or introductory coursework intended for non-science majors will not satisfy the above requirement.
    • Both overall academic record and applicable job experience will be factors for consideration; however, prior job experience will not replace the minimum academic requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master's degree in a biology, chemistry, or forensic science-related area from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of twelve semester or equivalent hours from a combination of undergraduate and graduate coursework covering the subject areas of genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and statistics or population genetics. The twelve semester hours shall include at least one graduate level course register three or more semester hours.
  • Three or more years of human DNA experience as a qualified analyst on forensic samples.
